New York, New York
November 14, 2012
Dear Penpride friends,
Mr. Large and I will depart for the USA in a few days, and while we are there,
we will be thinking of all our young friends in the Penpride Book Clubs and
history study groups. One way we expect to keep our focus is by visit, and in
some cases revisiting, history museums and other sites that promise to add to our
understanding of who we are today, by examining the evidence of who we have
been in the past.
Part of our enthusiasm for making this travel is the anticipation of returning to
report on it. We’ll be gathering interesting materials to support our discussions in
group, including photographs and printed items that illustrate the stories we read
and hear about in history. I intend to visit two of the world’s greatest museums in
New York City, that I have longed to explore for thirty years. One is the National
Museum of the American Indian, or The Heye as it’s called, the name of its founder.
The other is the American Museum of Natural History, with over 32 million artifacts
I’ll tell you all about it when I return. I am eager to read your notes on what you will
have read in your book in the meantime.
